Log structure which has thousands years history is valued and widely used in holiday resort and scenic area with the development of modern wood structure and the rise of tourism real estate. It has many advantages such as special architectural form and highly industrialized precast production. However, traditional log structure carries on at such a prodigious expense of wood. It does not conform to the contemporary development of China which per capita forest share is very low. Therefore, the paper optimizes the traditional log structure aiming at saving material and select sever cold region as the background in order to reduce the amount of log structure and make its further development in our country.Three optimized schemes of log wall are proposed in this paper on the basis of lasting the form of log structure and the construction of log house. They are transverse bearing, vertical bearing and comprehensive load-bearing scheme which combines the advantages of the two schemes above. Select optimum scheme to carry on material saving rate calculation, structure analysis of qualitative validation and analysis of thermal physical properties. The material saving rate of the optimized plan can reach 23% at least compared to the traditional log wall by adopting WETO wood structure software. Simulation model is established in SAP2000 software, the method of finite element analysis and formula calculator are combined to analyze the validation. The results show that the horizontal load of the optimized scheme do not meet the requirements of building load. The paper puts forward two schemes to enhance the capacity of log wall to resist hori zontal load aimed at this problem. the construction features of the two schemes are expounded in the paper. The analysis of thermal physical properties of wall mainly uses energy consumption software Design Builder to simulate. The calculation formula of minimum thermal resistance is used as well. According to the final results of output of the software, thermal physical properties of the optimized log wall is better than the traditional log wall.
