The Xitang Town is researched in this paper based on relevant theory and professional knowledge for the cultural landscape. The purpose of protection and development of Xitang culture is achieved by historical data collection analysis, analysis of the current state of the core issues summarized, process-related solutions. The goal of digging, benign show, sustainable development of local culture is achieved in the background of industrialization, urbanization and cultural assimilation. Although the main body of this paper is Xitang Town, the study of the thinking, logical way and the design method is pragmatism significance to ancient villages in the southern region and even in Chinese territory.There are five parts in this paper, the relevant theoretical analysis, object theory based on the analysis, summarized the core issue, design principles, and demonstrate problem-solving way. The research background is cultural landscape. The theoretical basis are the philosophy and cultural Schweitzer, and Shore cultural landscape theory. The cultural landscape with non-material culture core is researched from the field of material consciousness, civilizations, cultures, landscapes and other related fields. The object status is summarized clearly by study on the development process of Xitang Town and related theoretical research. Integrate theory with practice. The status of Xitang Town is analyzed from the features of non-material culture, carriers, regional natural phenomena. The current situation of core issues is summed up based on the above theoretical foundation. Three principles are proposed response to above questions, the principle of non-material cultural symbols, the principle of vector evolutionary and the principle of geographical natural scene. The solution is studied by following these three core design principles. Three-tier design method response to non-material culture core questions are proposed in this paper. The problems are guided and resolved with these six different design practices. The cultural foundation is exhibited during the process of protection and development.
