Freezing conditions have significant influence on the anti-sliding performance of asphalt pavement, it’s important to have the further study for the anti-sliding performance under frozen conditions. However, a lot of researches confined under non-freezing conditions have been done for the skid-resistance properties of asphalt pavements domestic and overseas. It’s obviously inadequate for the skid resistance considerations and researches of pavements on the frozen environment and lack of the mature evaluation standards and evaluation methods. Therefore, it needs a lot of basic researches on the skid resistance issue of icy pavements.According to the above questions, this research exploited the experiments which could simulate the freezing conditions to study the skid-resistance properties, explored the changing rules of the skid-resistance properties under variable factors, and analyzed the significant interaction effects of the pavement friction performance on the icy pavements. On the basis of former studies, explored evaluation standards and evaluation index of the skid-resistance properties under freezing conditions. The main contents and conclusions are summarized as follow:Firstly, it found out the mechanical principles and existing problems of testing equipment to measure surface friction of icy pavements referred to mechanical design theory, considering the measuring purpose on the icy pavements at the same time, to exploit the abrasion-measuring machine that can measure the surface friction performance under the frozen environmental conditions. After the measurement systemic analysis on the new machine, it would be proved to be accurate, reliable and stable by the bias and stability of measurement data.Secondly, it researched on the design of mixed ratio for asphalt mixtures and specimen formation. Determined the presence of water and its existence form is highly correlated with the road surface friction performance by friction experiments on the dry, wet, frozen specimen. Therefore, alter the structure of asphalt mixture, ice thickness on the pavements, road temperature, tire speed and tire load, time of surface abrasion and some other factors to do the experiment researches and get the pavement friction performance changing rules under these variable factors.Thirdly, this paper adopted the orthogonal theory, designed the orthogonal tests and analyzed the sensitivity and interaction of each different affecting factors by adopting the application of SPSS. Then it got the primary and secondary order and significant interaction effects of the pavement friction performance on the icy pavements.Eventually, the basic exploration on the evaluation method of the skid resistance properties had been carried on. Referred to the normal pavement’s skid resistance evaluation model –PIARC model, which had been mature and widely used in the world, it explored the model to evaluate skid resistance properties on the icy pavements, and explored the feasibility of using on the icy pavements after reforming PIARC model. Referred to the evaluation index and classification standard according to the current Chinese asphalt pavement standard, it got the new classification standard by considering the decay of SFC caused by freezing conditions.This paper researched on the testing equipment, influence factors, and the assessment method of icy pavements’ skid resistance properties. It provided the basic devices and theory on the skid resistance problems under the freezing conditions and pushed the follow-up study.
