Through and right-turn shared lane is a common kind of intersection approach forms. It improves the efficiency of straight vehicles during the green light signal, but the phenomenon that straight vehicles hinder the right traffic on through and right-turn shared lane during red light signal will greatly increase the right-turn vehicle delay. How to ensure the straight vehicle running efficiency at the same time to minimize the right vehicle delays have very important meaning in raising the efficiency of intersection. To solve this problem, this paper proposes the pre-signal control methods for through and right-turn shared lane. Based on the existing research results and vehicle operating characteristics, this paper sets up different delay models for the approach before and after the signal control method using, and analysis the effect of the methods.First of all, get geometric and traffic characteristics of the approach. Analysis the two key indexes of the approach with through and right-turn shared lane which is greatly different from the common intersection approach. Secondly, based on the existing research results and vehicle operating characteristics got from the data investigation, build a delay models for the approach with through and right-turn shared lane. And verify the accuracy of the model.Then, proposes the pre-signal control methods for through and right-turn shared lane to reduce the delay. Using pre-signal theory, establish the straight vehicle driving rules under the condition of pre-signal on through and right-turn shared lane and the through lanes besides it, give the formula to calculate the position of tip marking for changing lane and coordinate the signal timing scheme between main-signal and presignal.Finally, according to the vehicles operating characteristics under the control of pre-signal control methods, establish a delay model for the approach with presignal control methods. Using the two delay models, evaluate effect of the method, and determine the applied conditions according to the evaluation results.
