With the thorough of the China Western Development, Wuwei entered the period of rapid urbanization and economic growth. In 2013 the general secretary of Xi proposed the strategic plan of “The new silk road economic belt”, aiming to regional energy and financial cooperation, connectivity economic and trade with central Asian countries to build regional economic development poles. Wuwei is the most important nodes in the traffic economy belt. Its advantages of natural location, transport and industrial would determine the Wuwei city could play an important role in the national strategic development. In this background, the function, structure, industry, population and land use of the Wuwei city will change dramatically.However, because of the special geographical conditions,fragile ecological environment and the scarcity of land-using conditions of the Hexi Corridor,the reasonable and orderly development of Wuwei city space have been affected severely by the increasingly apparent conflict between the development of the urban spatial and the evolution of spatial structure with urban modernization and sustainable development.Urban spatial development is the process of urban space scale growth and urban function layout Improved.The study of Wuwei urban spatial development is one of the important step to guide the healthy development of the city.
