In order to solve the crisis of resources and pollution emissions problems, at present, the global automobile manufacturers are developing new energy vehicles, among these, the pure electric vehicles is the best. But the increased weight led to the passive safety performance of pure electric vehicle are generally lower than the fuel vehicle. In this paper, through the interpretation of passive safety regulations in China, refines requirements for high performance of vehicle passive safety, and combining with the previous development experience to setting the crashworthiness target of electric vehicle. Taking BESTURN B50 EV pure electric vehicle as the platform, carry on research to the passive safety performance of pure electric vehicle. This paper first describes the passive safety about BESTURN B50 EV pure electric vehicle’s prototype, considering the passenger vehicle’s passive safety performance to setting the overall target. Through the finite element analysis software LS-DYNA MPP 971 R5 to carry on front crashworthiness analysis about BESTURN B50 EV pure electric vehicle, and find out the crashworthiness weak points, fully considering the production process and cost, Proposed a reasonable optimization scheme. The simulation results show that the improved scheme can provide good survival space for the occupant, and vehicle’s deceleration also satisfies the restraint system requirements. The Improved BESTURN B50 EV pure electric vehicle is already meeting the C-NCAP 5 star requirements, and meet the development target. So the author thinks, through the development of passive safety performance, pure electric vehicle’s passive safety performance can achieve the fuel vehicle level, consistent with the requirements of energy conservation and environmental protection.
