With the trend of the development of the ship’s large-scale and lightness, the buckling and ultimate strength of the hull structure are becoming prominent problems. Because the stiffened panels are the most important part of a hull structure, so their buckling performance could directly affect the safety of the hull structure. The oil tanker and bulk carrier common structure rule (CSR) was issued by the international association of classification society (IACS) put into effect at 2006, which ruled the computing method of ultimate strength of stiffened panels.Based on previous materials, the buckling of plate planes with opening and stiffened panels in hull structure were studied in this paper. A stiffened panel with different loads was analyzed by MSC.Mentat, the results were compared with the results of PULS’, which proved the model boundary conditions and non-linear finite element collapse analysis used in the procedure were reasonable. Another stiffened panel was analyzed by non-linear finite element method, the results were also compared with the results of test’s, which described its different collapse modals. As the formulas in the rule only apply to the ratio of opening’s length and width to panel’s both less than 0.7, a shear buckling analysis of simply supported plate panel with larger opening that the ratio of opening’s length or width to panel’s greater than 0.7 was made by non-linear finite element method, then the formulas were optimized, which made the formulas could also adapt to panels with large opening. The process that a formula was deduced for shear buckling on three edges simply supported plate panel on the base of energy method was showed in the paper, and then the formula was tested by the way of comparing with the finite element method, which gave a simplified formula with practical value.
