High speed permanent magnet generator has the advantages of simple structure, small volume, light weight, high power density and wide application, which is becoming one of the research hotspots in the field of generator. In the aviation field, the volume and weight of the generator is very strict. Under the same power, the geometric size of the high-speed machine is much smaller than that of the ordinary machine, so that the machine can greatly reduce the consuming, the volume and the weight of the material. In addition, compared with the ordinary exciter generator, high energy product and high coercive force of the permanent magnet generator further improve the electrical power density and reliability. Therefore, the high-speed permanent magnet generator in the field of aviation has broad application prospects.When the machine is running, it is difficult to adjust the magnetic field of high speed rotating and permanent magnet, which makes the design method of high speed permanent magnet generator different from common excitation generator. In this paper, from the angle of electromagnetic design, through the equivalent magnetic circuit and finite element two aspects of the design of a high speed permanent magnet generator to replace the ordinary generator, reduce the size and weight of the generator, to improve the power density and performance of the generator. Based on the principle and running performance of high speed permanent magnet generator, the design characteristics of high speed permanent magnet generator are summarized, the selection of permanent magnet material, the selection of rotor structure and permanent magnet protective sleeve and the selection of silicon steel sheet are described in detail. With the equivalent magnetic circuit method identified high speed permanent magnet generator electromagnetism design basic parameters; for different number of slots, different number of poles of permanent magnet generator are compared to select the suitable scheme; analyzed the changing rules of different air gap, different slot width, different magnetization length voltage regulation, the methods of reducing the voltage regulation are obtained, and the reasonable range of the parameters are determined; by using Taguchi optimization design method to establish the matrix of orthogonal experiment, for optimization design, combined with the finite element method is used to solve the matrix, to meet the generator performance optimal combination of design parameters.The finite element method is applied to simulate the electromagnetic design of permanent magnet generator. The generator no-load magnetic field, the load magnetic field and harmonic are analyzed. The results verify the rationality of the electromagnetic design. Through the analysis of the performance of two kinds of generators, the results show the advantages of the permanent magnet generator.
