In recent years, Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has been widely used in ship electric propulsion, aerospace and servo drives because of its incomparable advantages, such as simple structure, good dynamic performance, safety and reliability. Meanwhile, it is valuable in theory and application to research PMSM sensorless speed control.Firstly, the mathematical model of PMSM has been analyzed and established, and has been compared between a variety of control methods. According to the principles of PMSM vector control, a PMSM vector control model has been builded with coordinate transformation and voltage space vector technology. Simulation results validate the effectiveness. In addition, in order to achieve speed sensorless PMSM control, a method of PMSM speed and position estimation based on Extend Kalman filtering (EKF) combined with PMSM vector control method has been proposed. Specifically, considering the stator voltage and current in αβ reference frame as input, the rotor speed and position were online predicted and optimally estimated using the EKF. Comprehensive simulation results on different motor speed and load conditions demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method.Furthermore, an inertia observer has been designed based on model reference adaptive control (MRAC). Specifically, to achieve high-precision speed control PMSM servo system, the inertia has been observed for real-time and applied to PMSM speed controller with the PMSM mathematical model as the reference model, and speed control system as adjustable model. Finally, in order to overcome the problem of traditional PID controller whose parameters can’t change as PMSM dynamics of inertia change, which causes bad influence on control system. This paper presents a noval integral proportion (IP) adaptive controller which puts the proportion control entry into the feedback path based on the PI controller and gets the analytical relationship between the speed controller parameters and the inertia of the PMSM model. Furthermore, an adaptive parameter of PMSM speed controller used inertia observer based on MRAC is utilized to obtain the PMSM speed control strategy with inertia observer and IP controller.
