Magnetic coupling is a new kind of transmission device, which transmit power by magnetic field interaction. And magnetic coupling could control load speed by adjusting the air-gap between permanent magnet disc and conductor disc. Magnetic coupling has been applied widely because of its many advantages such as non-rigid connection between load side and drive side, transmission stability and overload protection. The research on the transmission performance of magnetic coupling has important theoretical and practical significance. Therefore, the main research work for the transmission performance and the speed performance of magnetic coupling in this paper is summarized as follows:Firstly, the static and dynamic magnetic fields of air-gap are analyzed. The calculating formula of static magnetic induction intensity is derived by equivalent current method. A mathematical model of transmitted torque and eddy current loss are established according to equivalent magnetic circuit calculation. The influence of designing parameters of magnetic coupling on the transmitted torque is calculated and analyzed by this mathematical model. The proposed analytical method represents a fast analysis tool, and has certain practical significance for design and analysis of magnetic coupling.Secondly, a 3D finite element analysis model is established by using the software of Ansoft Maxwell 14.0. And the distributions of the static magnetic flux density and dynamic magnetic flux density of air-gap, eddy current density, eddy current loss density and transmitted torque are analyzed by the software. Finally, the structure of magnetic coupling is optimized by using Halbach array magnet structure. The transmission performance of new structure magnetic coupling is simulated based on finite element analysis (FEA) software. The simulations show the transmission of Halbach array magnetic coupling is promoted. The testing platform for characteristics of the magnetic coupling is designed based on theoretical analysis and simulation analysis. In this testing platform, two three-phase asynchronous motors are regard as drives motor and simulated load, respectively. Based on the experimental platform, the prototype’s torque transmission capability over the full range of slip speed and air-gap is tested. Comparative studies are carried out between the proposed analytical method, the finite element simulation and test, and the results show that the proposed method is accurate and effective.
