Ball screw mechanism with high positioning accuracy, transmission efficiency and wear resistance and other advantages, has been widely used in the aviation, defense, civil fields. At present, the rapid development of modern industrial technology requires ball screw with higher quality. Because the ball screw design theory is not perfect and special design tools for ball screw is not available, it is difficult to make response to repaid design the demand of customers and develop new type of ball screw mechanism.In order to solve the problem above, the repaid design platform for ball screw is developed with the fund of national science and technology major projects. Basing on the design process of and assembly of new type of ball screw, and parametric and automatic assembly technology, rapid design and development of ball screw mechanism was developed facing designers and users at the environment of Pro/ENGINEER (Pro/E). The main research contents of this paper are as follows:1) By consulting the relevant literature at home and abroad, technical needs characteristics of the new ball screw mechanism are analyzed, and process planning and module partition of platform are made in view of development needs and technical characteristics of the platform.2)It established a new type of design and assembly theory of ball screw mechanism.Due to the deficiency of the current design theory of ball screw mechanism, it established a general numerical model of the elastic contact angle which is suitable for calculation of ball screw with different osculation ratio and the design contact angle. All the work provides a theoretical basis for the development of new type of ball screw mechanism.3) Select ball screw mechanism model primitively. The development and design of a new type ball screw mechanism is based on the structure parameters of the existing screw mechanism types, so the optimization object of the ball screw mechanism is selected firstly. In order to achieve the initial selection function of ball screw by a domestic enterprise manual data is used as the initial value of the database by using VC++ software tools.4) Parametric design and automatic assembly of the new ball screw mechanism. According to the structural characteristics of ball screw mechanism model, it builds parameterized model design module and automatic assembly module of each part by taking advantage of Pro/Toolkit tool package with aim of meet the ball screw mechanism repeated modeling and rapid modeling needs.5) Calculation of the main performance of new ball screw mechanism. On the basis of the existing theory, the efficiency and the contact angle of the ball screw mechanism with the new structure before and after the temperature rise can be solved.
