Special material for automobile bumper of POE modified PP was prepared with polypropylene(PP) as matrix resin, thermoplastic elastomer(POE) as toughening agent, calcium carbonate as strengthening filler, titanate coupling agent as coupling agent and PP-g-MAH as compatibilizer.In the course of studying modified PP, the saturation ethylene-octylene copolymer(POE) produced by DOW chemistry company via ethylene and octylene original position polymerization catalysised by metallocene was adopted. The mechanical properties of PP/POE composites were studied.In order to improve rigidity of the PP/POE composites, add the inorganic filler. Testing mechanical properties of calcium carbonate blend and talcum blend, calcium carbonate blend was found better, so it was choosed.Resin acceptor can make mixed system compatible better. Testing mechanical properties of different resin acceptor mixed system, titanate coupling agent was found better. Adopting the method of dynamic adding titanate coupling agent can increase compatibility.Filling modified PP using calcium carbonate may increase rigidity of blending, but impact strength suffer heavy losses. Adding compatibilizer PP-g-MAH can improve compatibility and increase mechanical properties of PP/POE composites.In the present manufacturing technique, PP、POE and CaCO3 blend directly and result in lots of CaCO3 disperse in the PP, interrupting further improvement of toughness. So in this study, filling in CaCO3 was employed to modify POE before it was blended with PP and the mechanical properties of PP/ MPOE/ CaCO3 composites was better. The PP bumper that we researched and made attain the technical level of nation and foreign. It is worth to popularize and apply.
