With the development of power electronic technology, the emergence of a large number of nonlinear loads in the power system severely reduces the power quality, affects safe and economy operation of power systems; at the same time, the applications of a large number of precision instruments and electronic device put forward the higher requirements for power supply. The objective of this paper is to improve power quality, the research of reactive power compensation as the background, study the problem from two aspects: on the one hand, monitor the real-times power quality at a specific point load connected to the electricity grid and diagnose of the power quality problem, which provide a basis for making a reasonable control program to maintain power system safe and steady and managing the load; on the other hand, monitor the reactive power compensation device, evaluate whose influence for power quality, the results can provide the basis for selection of equipment types.Starting from the principle of reactive power compensation, this paper introduces the principle and meaning of reactive power compensation, analyze the economic benefits of reactive power compensation, for a better understanding of the compensation effect of reactive compensation devices, puts forward a performance evaluation method of reactive power compensation and the measures to improve the solution.In order to improve the voltage waveform, power factor and power quality, the effective way is to use reactive power compensation device, in order to display real-time power quality data after the load connected to the electricity grid and the improvement of power quality after installating the reactive power compensation device. This paper develops a system to realize the monitoring of the electrical quality and the reactive compensation, the system integrates the data of reactive compensation and power quality, in the same system realize the analysis of the relationship between reactive power compensation and power quality. Using USB4650 for data collection and transmission,using Lab VIEW software to realize data process and analysis, using SQL server software to realize data storage and management. The idea of modularization is used in software design, system mainly has five function modules: data module, data storage and playback, fault diagnosis and records, power quality evaluation, system management.This paper analyses the working principle of capacitor、SVC、STATCOM, use the MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation software to build mathematical model, through the simulation analysis of the response characteristics and the effect of compensation. At last, through case analysis of the economic benefits of reactive power compensation device, the veracity of the test data of the monitoring system is verified by the system test, and use the system to monitor and analysis the effect of FC and STATCOM and the improvement of power quality.
