Top beam plays a very important role in the soldier pile wall for it can strengthen the rigidity and integrity of retaining system greatly. However, the functions of top beam have not been taken into consideration enough in the present calculating methods. The following research work has been done in this thesis.(1) The present research achievements of top beam in the retaining system of foundation pit were summarized and analyzed. And then the related problems were analyzed.(2) The two calculating methods of the soldier pile wall taking the function of top beam into consideration and the merits and demerits of these methods were analyzed.(3) A modified calculating method was put forward in the paper. This calculating method is simpler than the whole calculating method and is more reasonable than the element method of Leading Deep Foundation Pit Design Software. Based on the new calculating method, the calculation software was programmed. Compared with the results of Leading software, the calculating method proved to be qualified.(4) How the top beam parameter affects the deformation of foundation pit under force by row pile pillar retaining calculating method was studied. The influence of different factors on the deformation of row pile retaining structure by changing the factors such as bending rigidity, length of top beam, proportional coefficient of soil resistance, excavation depth was studied. Finally, some suggestions on design of top beam were put forward.
