With the universal popularity of portable electrical devices and the rapid development of social electrification, power management IC is now facing increasingly complicated requirements on function. As one of the categories of power IC, Digital power IC experienced significant development within past years. Especially, it stands out in high-end systems and electrical industry systems. Digital Controller is the key component of digitally-controlled power system. It employs ASIC design methodology and shows high robustness with highly transformable property among different technologies. Also, digital power IC have advantages in chip area and power consumption management over traditional analog power IC.Digital controller is composed of DPID, DPWM and I2 C bus as communication I/O. DPID functions on digital loop compensation which employs traditional analog compensation concepts. One can apply I-type, II-type and III-type compensation with I2 C bus and alternate among them in one signal design. DPWM is digital power width modulator. Its accuracy determine the static error of a digitally controlled power system. Also, it cooperates with ADC module as quantizer. I2 C bus has two different types of configurations according to design requirements. In this thesis, firstly, systematic topology is briefly introduced with emphasis on possible infinite-loop. Also, digital ASIC design flow adopted in this design is described. Then, the principles, architecture properties and design considerations on DPID, DPWM and I2 C are introduced and compared. Last, the design and simulation of different building blocks within digital controller is detailedly illustrated. The solution on digitally controlled power system is described.
