As a kind of non-renewable cultural heritage, the protection and renewal of modern historic buildings is of great importance. In the current context of that the development of green building has become the main theme, and building energy efficiency as well as sustainable technologies are widely advocated and applied, the protection and renewal of historic buildings tends to present the following two aspects:first, the application of energy-saving technologies is very limited in view of their special protection status; second, to reconstruct historic buildings blindly in accordance with the energy-saving requirements of existing buildings, contrary to the protection principle of cultural heritage, causes irreversible damage to historic buildings. The research of this paper is based on the starting point to solve above problems, seeking the combination of green building technologies and facades protection of modern historic buildings, to provide a green energy-saving new mode for facades protection of historical buildings based on Trombe Wall principle, making an useful and active exploration to address the contradiction between continuation of historical context, skin texture and improvement of indoor environment, reduction of energy consumption in the protection of modern historic buildings, to fill the blanks in the field of related research. The paper uses the research methods such as literature research, on-the-spot investigation, comparative analysis and software simulation; through case analysis, renewal design and effect evaluation of energy-saving after the transformation, draws the following innovative results:(1) Introduce a kind of green energy-saving technology-Trombe Wall technology into the research of facades protection of modern historic buildings, and provide a new way for facades protection of historic buildings based on application of Trombe Wall principle, putting forward a set of reasonable, effective protection methods and specific, feasible technical solution.(2) The general idea of the technical solution is to use Trombe Wall principle to renew and transform on the basis of not changing the original state of historic buildings, preserving their authenticity and realization of minimal intervention, and to maximize its efficiency.(3) Proposed solution takes a variety of design methods and technical measures, for example, using transparent materials, using point-supported glass curtain walls, gathering heat by the original wall, using the existing windows to open vents, simplifying the structural measures as far as possible, setting the components which have greater impact on building facades along original building skin texture, and so on, on the premise of respecting and protecting the historic value of the building and fully continuing its skin texture, finding the best balance point of coordination and integration between the new technologies and original building, while taking advantage of Trombe Wall principle for passive solar heating, in order to improve the indoor environment and reduce building energy consumption. The research results of this paper can provide new enlightenment and reference for theoretical research in related fields; provide theoretical reference, new application idea and technical reference for architects or design firms in related practices of protection, green renewal and reuse design of historic buildings; draw attention to use of passive solar technologies to reduce the building energy consumption in historical buildings protection, playing a positive role to promote the process of social sustainability.
