With the purpose of evaluating the benefit of geotextile comprehensively and provide a scientific basis for application of ecological slope protection technology, taking the straw mats, coconut mats, straw coconut mats and no-woven fabric as the experimental materials, by field observation and laboratory experiment on shrub,combination of shrubs and grass and combination of different shrubs, this paper makes a comparison of the impact of different types of geotextiles on the slope soil erosion, soil moisture, topsoil temperature, soil nutrient and plant growth. The results show that:(1) The geotextile can effectively protect the road side slope and the straw mats and straw coconut mats reduces effectively both the slope soil erosion, and surface runoff and increase the rainfall infiltration. The coconut mats may increase the surface runoff, but it has the best effect to reduce the soil erosion.(2) This paper makes a single factor analysis about the four kinds of geotextiles topsoil temperature. The results show that the effect of geotextile on the topsoil temperature is not significant. The topsoil temperature changes with the the weather, and the topsoil temperature under different geotextiles have the same change trend. The four kinds of geotextiles topsoil temperature as follows:non-woven fabric mats, coconut mats, straw coconuts and straw mats.(3) Based on a single factor analysis of four kinds of geotextiles topsoil moisture, it was found that the influence of different geotextiles of topsoilmoisture difference varies with the plant combination and rainfall. The topsoil moisture showed different trend in different plant combination. In grass combination, the coconut mats topsoil moisture was the most sensitive response to rainfall, and it maintained the highest for a long time after the rain stopped. In shrubs combination, the straw mats topsoil moisture was always maintaining the highest, and the topsoil moisture declined relatively flat after the rain stopped. Topsoil moisture in grass and shrub combination showed no obvious trend because of comprehensive influences of multiple factors.(4) The topsoil nutrient changed significantly in one year after the geotextiles were set. The alkaline hydrolysis nitrogen content in topsoil covered by the straw coconut mats was the highest, and its organic content was relatively high. So a conclusion was drawed that the straw coconut mats works best in terms of enhancement of soil fertility.(5) The geotextile has a certain role in promoting the growth of the plants, but the effect varies due to different geotextiles. From the angle of promoting plant growth, the straw mats is suitable for shrubs combination, straw coconut mats is suitable for grass and shrub combination and coconut mats is suitable for grass combination.
