With the development of society, distance measurement plays an important role in aviation, military, construction and other fields. Laser has the characteristics of good monochromaticity, good coherence,strong brightness and directional,which makes the laser range finder come into our sight and developed rapidly. It gets widely used because laser rangefinder has characteristics of small size, light weight and easy to carry. So the study of laser ranging technology is very meaningful.This article is divided into the following aspects:Firstly, the development of laser ranger technology in domestic and foreign country is illustrated. Secondly, it discussed, analyzed and compared the common methods of laser ranging, which was included triangulation laser ranging, interferometer laser ranging, pulsed laser ranging and phase-shift laser ranging. Then it choosed phase-shift laser ranging because it has high accuracy and long distance. Thirdly ranging system structure is proposed after analysis of the selecting of frequency, difference frequency phase measurement techniques,frequency synthesis technology and apFFT phase measurement methods.Finally, FFT phase measurement and apFFT phase measurement are simulated. The results show that apFFT phase measurement technology has very high phase accuracy. It also analyzed the effects of noise and the sampling points on the phase accuracy of apFFT. At last it analyzed the phase error and distance error.
