Fault location in distribution network is one of the important contents of the distribution automation. In order to improve power quality, shorten outage time, improving the continuity of power supply, provide reference for fault isolation and power supply restoration, fault location in distribution is required to be fast and accurate, With the widely access of distributed power supply, and distributed generations in different operation conditions need to exit operation according to the distributed power access standard, the change of power flow and network topology brings new challenges to the fault location of distribution network. In this paper, the application of intelligent algorithm and matrix algorithm in fault location of distribution network is improved in order to obtain accurate and efficient fault location results.This paper firstly introduces the development and current situation of feeder automation. The methods and characteristics of centralized and local feeder automation are introduced briefly. Fault section location methods based on centralized feeder automation are introduced.Mathematical model of fault location in distribution network based on ant colony algorithm is established. Under the condition of distributed power supply, a method to obtain various switching states based on searching strategy is constructed, ant system with elitist strategy and MMAS is also used, regional processing method is used so the complexity of computation of fault-section location and the dimension of feasible solution are reduced. Simulation results show that compared with the traditional ant colony algorithm, the improved ant colony algorithm has better application in fault location.Because of the good global search ability and local search ability, Mathematical model of fault location in distribution network based on memetic algorithm is established. The initial solution is generated by Ant colony algorithm. a new switch function is built which can adapt itself to the change caused by the switching of DG. For the region without DG, the FTU state of the entrance is detected to simplify the calculation of fault location. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method can obtain the fault location results in a very small number of iterations, and has good fault tolerance.Fault Indicators with communication interfaces are integrated into distribution automation, Based on the fault signals provided by fault indicators and the matrix algorithm, a unified fault criterion for fast fault location is constructed. This algorithm does not need complex matrix operations, and the criterion is simple. The simulation results show that the proposed method is effective when it is used to locate single fault or multiple faults, it has good fault tolerance as the lack or distortion of the fault information. If non critical point information is loss, this algorithm can also quickly get the correct fault section.
