The plane strain state is a common stress state of engineering, such as retaining walls, embankments, dams and other projects. At present, few studies of plane strain of loess are started. As a important construction material in loess areas, loess is widely distributed in our country, as a result, it is very essential to study mechanics properties under the plane strain state. The plane strain tests of remolded loess are made by the true triaxial apparatus developed and regards the loess of Yuedengge, xi’an as the research object. The main results are as follows:(1) The plane strain tests of remolded loess are carries out to study the the stress-strain relations under different moisture content, different compaction degree and different confining pressure. The research shows that the stress-strain relationship curves of remolded loess is the hardening or hard hardening type. Under condition of the same compaction degree and confining pressure, the smaller the moisture content, the greater the strength of remolded loess. On condition of the same moisture content and confining pressure, the greater the compaction degree, the higher the strength of remolded loess. On condition of the same moisture content and compaction degree, the greater the confining pressure, the higher the strength of remolded loess.(2) The shear strength index of remolded loess chang when the chang of the initial conditions:With the moisture content being increased, the cohesion was reduced obviously and the internal friction angle was decreased slightly; with the coefficient of compaction being increased, the cohesion was increased significantly and the internal friction angle was almost constant.(3) The effect of moisture content and confining pressure on the main stress is as follows: The greater the confining pressure and the smaller the moisture content are, the greater the intermediate principal stress is.(4) Under the plane strain state, major principal stress and intermediate principal stress increase with the increase of axial strain. Major principal stress increases more rapidly.
