Due to the tension of availability of energy and companies’ attention to the control of vehicle cost, the application of composite material has been paid much attention as an effective way of lightweight. Compared with the traditional thermosetting matrix composites, long glass fiber reinforced polypropylene composites(LGF/PP) has gained more and more attention from different countries and research institutes because of its advantages like fast molding cycle, secondary molding and easy to recycle. Based on hot forming, this article did a systematic study on LGF/PP, main contents and innovations include:In order to improve the impregnating of thermoplastic composite during the forming process and enhance the mechanical properties of final products, and combined kinds of non-woven technology like laying with single fiber, this paper studied the GF/PP composite three-dimensional hybrid method for production process of semi-finished products. The air laying technology of the Non-woven machinery is introduced, the matrix structure of GF/PP composites is improved, which can not only ensure the uniformity during the mixing of polypropylene fiber and glass fiber, but also significantly reduce the damage of glass fiber, fracture phenomenon, effectively solve the problem of dip forming, promote the quality and mechanical properties of glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic sheet.Based on the above process of LGF/PP, it studied the material mechanics property. First, it was proved that the main mechanical performance para meters of LGF/PP have certain dispersion, and the arrangement is: Poisson’s ratio(6.11) > failure strain(4.95)> elasticity modulus(2.12)> shear modulus(1.97).Furthermore, dispersion analysis was did to show that the overall performance is less sensitive to Poisson’s ratio and shear modulus than to failure strain and elasticity modulus, which obey the normal distribution. It also discussed the effect of strain rate on the LGF/PP material performance. The Cowper-Symonds material constitutive model was selected to model the LGF/PP composite regarding strain rate effects. Compared simulation and test results, it shows that Cowper-Symonds can be applied in modeling of LGF/PP effectively.With reference to the existing design requirements of battery pack, considering the forming characteristics of LGF/PP, this article complete the structure design. Compared with traditional metal battery pack, LGF/PP battery pack has certain advantage in integration, electromagnetic shiel ding, insulation and waterproof, lightweight. Based on mechanical compression test, it discussed the effect of LGF/PP battery pack’s fillet radius on its stiffness and strength. Static strength analysis shows 80.97% weight saving and 56.22%, 59.13% decreas ing of maximum stress in different conditions.
