Study On Preservation Of The Residential Historic Buildings In The Central Urban Areas Of Hangzhou

As one of the first National Famous Historical and Cultural cities, Hangzhou has over 2200 years of city building and over 200 years of ancient capital building, is a city with long history and profound cultural background. Just as genetic codes and DNA, historical buildings are material carriers that can best reflect the history and culture of a city.With the development of Hangzhou economy, politics and culture, historical buildings were left marks of all ages. Especially the buildings that are still being used, they are so precious to be preserved with every twist and turn. It is worthy our further study to find out how to protect and increase the service life of historical buildings and make them fit into contemporary social life and adjust to living habits of contemporary people. And what’s more important is to make their social value, cultural value and historical value longer extend and become cultural identifications to the next generation.In this essay, I take living historical buildings in Hangzhou central urban area as the study objects, which can best reflect the look of the city and have distinct characteristics. The central urban area includes Shangcheng District, Xiacheng District, Xihu District, Gongshu District, Jianggan District and Westlake Scenic Spots in hangzhou.Through the study of the Hangzhou city and architectural development history in modern times, we found the value features of historic buildings:regional characteristics, eclecticism and inherent cultural connotations. Drawing on the value evaluation system of Tianjin and carrying on analysis to the current situation and problems, some recommendations can be made on the conservation of historic buildings. In the course of this study, through the comparison of two mode of repair measures--continuation of the existing function and functional transformation, analysis its resettlement and real cases, it gets a conclusion that multiple factors should be taken into consideration in the regulation and utilization of historic buildings, and to find out reasonable mode on the basis of comprehensive comparison and the authenticity principle.Through the analysis of the achievements and shortages in protecting historical buildings for more than ten years in Hangzhou, with reference to the practice experience of historic buildings preservation in China and overseas (Britain, Hongkong, Suzhou, Shanghai etc.), and in accordance with local actual condition, it can be concluded that the conservation of residential historic buildings in the central urban area of Hangzhou needs to be further improved in the aspects of policy and regulation, remedial technology, financing channel, conservation ideas and so on.
