Electric vehicles (EV). as a means of using clean energy, will achieve rapid development and large-scale application. However, the integration of large-scale EV will have significant impacts on the power load, operation and construction of the power grid. Because most of EV are connected to distribution network to charge, so the impacts on distribution network is particularly obvious and direct. Therefore, this paper studies on characteristics of EV charging load and distribution network supportability. The main results and innovations are as follows:First of all, the power load of Beijing and Chaoyang District power grid as well as that of a distribution network in residential area are monitored, and the characteristics of these loads are then analyzed and compared.Secondly, this paper studied the characteristics of electric vehicle charging load. In this chapter, the influencing factors of electric vehicle charging load are analyzed, based on which a calculation method of EV charging load is proposed. And the fluctuation characteristic of EV charging load curve is analyzed. Based on the result of fluctuation characteristic, different research methods are determined according to different scale of EV. Then, in order to clarify the relationship among the EV peak load, the operation mode of EV and the peak load of the power grid, this paper defines two key parameters: coincidence factor and mutual coincidence factor. At the end, the change trend of EV charging coincidence factor and mutual coincidence factor are deeply studied in this part.Finally, based on the characteristics of the power load of distribution network in residential area and electric vehicle charging load, the mathematical model of the distribution network supportability to EV charging is established. And an evaluation method for distribution network supportability is proposed, which can comprehensively reveal the influence factors and characteristics of the distribution network supportability to EV charging load.
