The development of NingXia power grid and transmission capability is growing rapidly during "Thirteen Five", the proportion of new energy is rising further more. Voltage stability problem becomes increasingly prominent. It is very necessary to revaluate the effect of reactive power compensation scheme in power planning.The paper analyzes the current situation and problems of configuration of reactive power compensation. Based on the new energy capacity, peak regulation of thermal power unit, capacity of AC channel, the paper proposes the constructing strategy of typical modes with potential voltage stability risk, and analyzes the reactive power characteristics with large-scale new energy integration in Ningxia grid. The paper studies from the following four aspects.Firstly, according to the planning of Ningxia grid and new energy construction and DC operation plan, the typical modes and some particular typical maintenance mode data in each year, the current and planning configuration of reactive power compensation, it evaluates the hierarchical and partitioning balance of reactive power, voltage control level and network loss, finds out the weakness of voltage stability level, and proposes recommendations optimal adjustment of the reactive power compensation configuration.Secondly, based on the characteristics of large-scale new energy and multi-DC sending grid, it studies on the voltage stability level of influence with reactive power compensation devices and operation conditions after the failure of these devices. Configuration of reactive power compensation is also proposed.Thirdly, the impact of wind power fluctuation and DC flexible control on configuration of reactive power compensation is studied. The paper presents the reactive power compensation configutation strategy of those wind farm substations considering the impact of wind power fluctuation. The bus votage level will be kept at a reasonable level during the large random wind power fluctuation.Finally, the feasibility of application of SVC device in Ningxia grid is also studied, and the effect of the SVC configuration for improving transmission capacity, the stability of power system, and the recovery level of bus voltage after failure is evaluated, this paper recommends the dynamic reactive power compensation configuration.
