With the rapid growth of the national economy in recent years, the people’s living standards are constantly improving, the power industry as the country’s lifeblood industry also will be a good development. Electricity, as the two energy, is the most commonly used form of energy in the whole society. It has incomparable advantages. In order to ensure the needs of social development and people’s normal needs, it is necessary to ensure the safety, reliability, stability, scientific and economic operation of power network. And saving energy is always the main link of our country to promote energy conservation and emission reduction policies, but also we need to consistently adhere to the long-term state policy. Due to the contradiction between the resources environment restriction and the increasing speed of economic growth, the energy saving of the electric power industry is extremely urgent. Especially for the distribution network with a large scale, involving a wide range, loss and so on, the role of energy saving and loss reduction is more important.Distribution network as the end of the grid, bear power transmission is an important mission, directly reflects the user requirements for electric power reliability, quality, economy, has become the ultimate manifestation of the power system power quality, reliability, security, stability, and an important indicator of. Although the development in recent years, the scale is expanding, the grid structure is also increasingly complex, the power supply capacity and reliability have been greatly improved. However due to the historical reasons and the load impact, distribution network in our country today still have many problems, such as unreasonable structure design, equipment tends to aging, overall technical level is backward, reactive power compensation setting problems and other factors, resulting large power loss, so compared with other developed countries in the world, net loss of this gap is particularly evident. Therefore, the importance of energy saving for China’s power grid is evident.This paper mainly from the perspective of the analysis of reactive power optimization of distribution network loss reduction and energy saving. Begins with a detailed introduction to the non-reactive power compensation mechanism, reactive power compensation of voltage and the system voltage and active power loss relationship, and from the point of compensation, way, capacity, configuration angles introduced optimization method for reactive power compensation. Secondly, from two angles of the composition and cause of reactive power loss in distribution network, the measures to reduce energy loss in distribution network are put forward. Finally the compensation of reactive power and distribution system reduce line loss mechanism and analyzes the relationship, and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for reactive power optimization in a simple analysis is proposed based on particle swarm optimization algorithm of reactive power optimization mathematical model and optimization steps, based on examples of simulation analysis to verify the proposed based on particle swarm optimization algorithm of reactive power optimization has a very significant role to improve the power factor and reduce the power loss and improve the power quality.
