Power system is an important part of Lifeline Engineering, In recent years, due to the earthquake resulting in damage even paralysis in some areas, power system puts forward higher requirements on the seismic performance of electrical equipment. Insulators are an important part of overhead transmission lines, which plays a role of electrical insulation and mechanical support. With the development of material science technology, composite insulator begins to replace the porcelain insulator to improve the seismic performance of power system. But relevant study of composite insulator is still nearly blank in our country, so the study on seismic performance of composite insulator has important significance and value.Firstly, I conducted the quasi-static experience of composite insulator, including actuator load program, deflection-based experience, corner-based experience, strain-based experience and ultimate bearing capacity experience. The characteristic value of structure is obtained by experiment, at the same time, we could find strain-based experience is the best way to study the stiffness and elastic modulus of composite insulators key parts. Through the ultimate bearing capacity experience, we could study the ultimate bearing capacity and damage form of insulator under the static load. And then, I conducted the dynamic characteristic experiment at the seismic station, including dynamic characteristics probing and ultimate bearing capacity experience. We mainly study the frequency characteristics and damping characteristics through the dynamic characteristics probing experience. And we mainly study ultimate bearing capacity and failure modes of insulators under synthetic seismic wave through the ultimate bearing capacity experience.Compared quasi-static experience with dynamic characteristics experiences, we could find that quasi-static is an effective way to get the seismic ultimate bearing capacity of insulator, and the damage limit bending moment of the insulator bottom connection could be the indicator of seismic bearing capacity. Finally, I conducted finite element analysis of composite insulator through Ansys software. Compared with the experiences, we could find combined Ansys and quasi-static experience is the effective way to analyze the seismic performance of composite insulator.
