At present, many ± 800 kV UHV DC project of Yun-Guang, Xiang-Shang, jin-su have been put into operation in China, which the DC pole bus surge arresters in the converter station is provided by ABB, SIEMENS company. ±800 kV pole bus arrester is the base of UHVDC converter station insulation coordination, and is also decisive action of insulation level on whole project, which directly affects the occupied area and the cost of the whole project. In this paper, a lucubrate on the ± 800 kV UHV DC pole bus arrester is conducted through Hami-Zhengzhou ±800 kV UHV DC project. We’ll master the core technology and promote the localization of the arrester. DC resistor is the core element of the UHV DC pole bus arrester. The study of formulation and process for the large diameter DC resistor can reduce the energy consumption, improve the anti-aging performance of the DC resistor on more D/H size, increase the energy absorption capacity, reduce the voltage ratio and the number of parallel columns, optimize the equalizing current.The uniform of the current sharing between the resistor columns is the main problem in the research of the pole bus arrester. In this paper, we propose a set of scheme for keeping the same consistency of the voltage-current, which is consistent with the characteristics of the column of the resistance, and meet the good effect of the current sharing under different impulse current. At the same time, it can realize the make sets and high-usage of the metal oxide arrester with multiple batches.The other key point is test method of the column current distribution coefficient in this paper. A set of measuring instruments and special tools is designed for measuring the distribution characteristics of the limit 8 columns resistor at same time, which analysis current distribution characteristics for scores of resistor columns under multitudinous, and proposes two test schemes to calculate accuracy non-uniform factor maximum of current distribution on batch bulk resistor columns by the data of current distribution on part resistor columns.According to the requirements of Hami-Zhengzhou± 800 kV UHV DC project, a kind of internal-parallel and suspended type of 800kV UHV pole bus arrester is designed optimal, which is researched on electric construction and field strength. A "charge rate method" method is put forward to calculate the number of parallel columns.The tensile strength of the arrester is increased by using the middle insulating rod.Using ANSYS finite element analysis software to simulate the electric field distribution, and design optimal the anti-corona ring.Through the calculation of the design, analysis and a series of research test, type test,800kV of ZhongZhou engineering converter station of Hami-Zhengzhou ±800 kV UHV DC project is hanged in network and pilot run, which operation effect is good.In this research, the 800kV UHV DC pole bus arrester is made localization, which fills in gap in the field of UHV DC pole bus arrester.
