| With the rapid economic development in China in recent years, people’s living standard has been greatly improved and people have higher and higher requirement for the quality of outdoor activities. However, the existing urban outdoor activities can not meet people’s growing demand for outdoor activities. Besides, it is difficult for the city with highly-stressed land resources, especially the city center to satisfy people’s demand for outdoor activities by building large parks. Pocket park, a new type of urban park, can flexibly distribute in every corner of the city under the condition of small amount of land occupation, so it can greatly alleviate people’s demand for outdoor activities. The paper first elaborates the research background, purpose and significance, analyzes the difference between pocket park and the street green space and open space, and defines the scope of the pocket park. Next, on the basis of the review and summary of the previous studies of pocket parks, the paper determines the research framework and direction, and explores the layout and design of pocket park.Through the field investigation on the pocket parks in old towns of Hefei and combining with the case analysis of the excellent pocket parks at home and abroad, the author finds that the problems, namely, small number of pocket parks, rough landscape design, and limited space for plants and people. From the aspects of macroscopic layout and microscopic design, the author explores the existing problems in pocket parks, finds some innovative solutions, and proposes the effect of peripheral environment on the pocket park service scope should be considered in the macro layout. Besides, pocket park layout and site selection should be conducted according to the actual needs of outdoors space and the actual situation of land use, rather than make a simple circle on the drawing on the basis of the service radius. In addition, on the microscopic design, the author proposes leaving human activity space and plant growth space in the vertical direction to avoid people from competing for space with plants. Finally, the author conducts a set of the layout and design on the pocket parks in the old towns of Hefei, and puts the research theory and methods into practice. |
