Transformer is the most important sensing equipment in the power system, measuring current, voltage of various voltage levels and sensing tasks. With moving to a higher voltage level, greater power transmission capacity development, new transformers because of the higher measurement accuracy and reliability, wider bandwidth response, has become a hot research and engineering applications.Electronic transformers are mainly divided into two major categories: passive optical transformers and active electronic transformers. In this paper, the basic principle of two kinds of electronic transformers is introduced, and the operation of the electronic transformers in the power network is investigated. Passive optical transformer is a hot research topic at home and abroad, but because of the reliability of the problem, it can not meet the requirements of large-scale use. Active electronic transformer has reached the practical conditions, and has been used in the power grid has a certain scale. In this paper, the communication protocol between electronic transformer and other equipment is studied, the basic characteristics of IEC61850 are described, and the new independent equipment is studied. In this paper, the application of combined electronic current / voltage transformer and its matching unit in engineering is studied by using an example of engineering application.
