The China Power Design Institutes already widely use 3D plant design software to build 3D models. The software can check collision and generate 2D drawings & MTOs to guide construction & purchase. However original documents were either lost a long time ago, or old documents remained unchanged which not valid following plant reconstruction in reconstruction & life extension of power plants. The methods of traditional survey and design exist a lot of issues including low precision, big variance, low reusability and high cost of travelling. Mature 3D laser scan technology can solve the problem of traditional survey and design methods.Current 3D laser scan hardware vendors are using their own remodeling software. By using a current interface of Plant Design Management System (PDMS) developed by AVEVA firm, which widely used in the domestic Power Design Institutes, geometric models can’t be edited, can’t generate ISO drawings, and can’t create MTOs for construction. So the Power Design Institutes still need massive human resource to convert geometric models like pipe and steel to intelligent model with PDMS component specification information.This project is developed to meet the above-mentioned design demand. The programming uses object-oriented technology. As development platform with AVEVAPDMS and 3D laser scan software LFM Modeller, the project designed a software interface by AVEVA Programmable Macro Language (PML). The software interface uses point cloud of 3D laser scans to remodel, invokes the component specification information on AVEVA PDMS back-end. The software interface realizes the intelligent model which can be edited in PDMS and generate ISO drawings & MTOs. The software interface includes a visual window, can read the component specification information exported by PDMS, and provides the automatic and manual methods to match the type of component between AVEVA PDMS & LFM software. Finally, depending on the powerful PDMS function of intelligent drawings & MTOs, working efficiency of the engineers will raise obviously, the cost in reconstruction & extension of power plants of domestic Power Design Institutes will be reduced, technical skills and competitive strength will be enhanced.
