Occupant behavior makes great difference in building energy consumption, and also is quite important for the evaluation of technology adaptability. Quantative description of occupant behavior action in buildings has fundamental meaning in building simulation area. Occupant behavior has the feature of randomness, complexity and diversity, which make it hard to describe with the existing models, such as deterministic schedule, threshold model, statistical model, or random model. For this aim, this study focuses on occupant behavior action model, with the method of field studies in real cases. The major research contents and conclusion includes:1. Field studies across the country are taken, including 22 office buildings and 46 households. Room occupied state, indoor temperature and humidity, CO2 concentration, illumination, air-conditioner usage, heating usage, lighting usage, window state are measured, and also questionnaire is used. The lighting usage behavior in two single offices and the AC usage behavior in three households in different climate zones are chosen as case studies. The measured data is analyzed based on the survey result to observe the variation of the occupant behavior action possibility drived by environment or event triggers.2. A kind of occupant behavior action model is developed. The model combines environment and event triggers together, using the conditional possibility to describe the occupant behavior action with a random process. Set up the action model for the case studies, and then summarize the process to give out a standard process to use the model in real cases.3. Develop the evaluation system for the action model, with the method of function fitting goodness, time series correlation, and statistical key parameters. The case studies of Office A and Household 2 are used as examples. Through the evaluation result, the model is convinced as effective, accurate and applicable in real project.4. Related problems, as case measurement time duration, model time step, and the interaction among occupants in a pooling space are discussed.
