With the rapid development of economy and enhancement of urbanization level, a shortage of land resources, our metropolitan cities increasingly developed toward the vertical, three-dimensional orientation. Meanwhile, the commercial building is no exception, the vertical-shaped shopping mall developed into a trend.However, with the continuous rise of commercial space, shoppers fatigue increases to reach the top commercial place, and the attractiveness of shops reduces, the commercial value of shops reduces. Therefore, how to resolve this contradiction that low commercial value of the height shops is very important. This article attempts to solve this problem.First of all, the first chapter introduces the background, purpose and significance of the research, analysis of the research status, find research methods, build basic framework of the thesis.Secondly, this paper defines the concept of vertical shopping mall, organize on the rise and development process of vertical-shaped shopping mall, and clear the basic features of vertical shopping mall.The author through extensive field research, collected typical vertical shopping mall cases in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, mainland china, summarized the same types characteristic and analysis compared with traditional horizontal shopping mall, discussed the design principles of vertical shopping mall.Finally, the paper focused on how to improve the attractiveness of vertical shopping mall, create a good business climate and enhance the value of retail, discussed from vertical transportation, commercial format planning and space design three aspects, raised main architectural design strategies. We hope to provided information and reference for China’s big cities shopping mall design in the future.
