In the course of construction, workers repeated the same or similar manual work, their construction efficiency will be increased, this phenomenon is the learning effect. The learning effect has been widely recognized in recent years, but it is not in-depth study in domestic construction field. The characteristics of Chinese construction industry were ignored during many researches, therefore existing research results do not fit with the reality of our country. Line-of-balance(LOB) is a commonly used graphic project planning and scheduling method. but this method dose not considered the change of work efficiency because of continuous construction, and it does not match with the actual. This paper studies the learning effect and LOB, and proposed an improved LOB method with the learning effect.(1) Analyzed the factors that affect the learning effect through complete enumeration method, and summarized the process characteristics of learning effects with the concept of learning effects. Based on the characteristics of the construction market in China, this study proposed a modified learning curve model by using the management level, and presented a method for evaluation of project management.(2)Five construction projects has been investigated, the project reinforced banding, installation of formwork and the concrete pouring construction efficiency were also calculated. Followed by analysis and the results verified the existence of the learning effect in construction. Regression analysis were performed on the construction efficiency by STATA software, and calculate the learning curve and learning rate.(3)Systematically summarized the current research on learning effects model, and points out the deficiency LOB scheduling method. By using the learning curve model proposed in this paper calculated the duration of each work unit which can improve the accuracy of LOB and the relationship between the management level. The original LOB method and the improved one are compared by a case study,the(4)Combining the field investigation in the project and the facts of current domestic construction market, there are main problems hinder the learning effect : the easily broken capital chain, the frequent flow of workers and the lack of pre control of progress. Corresponding measures are put forward to guarantee in the construction of the learning effect, so as to improve the construction efficiency.In this paper, the research results can help the project management better understand the learning effect on the engineering construction and its influence on the project schedule control. Management can use learning effect to optimize the project by using learning curve model with management factor.
