High voltage circuit breakers are the basic component of the power system, and play a role of control and protection in the power system. We can say that the reliability of high voltage circuit breakers performance directly affects the security and stability of power system operation. With the increase of high voltage circuit breakers using time, the timely maintenance and repair of high-voltage circuit breakers are necessary. The traditional "regular maintenance" method lacks scientificalness, causes the waste of human material and financial resources and it is easy to produce new hidden faults, reducing the utilization of electrical equipment. Therefore, the implementation of high-voltage circuit breakers status online monitoring,and real-time monitoring of high voltage circuit breakers operating state not only have some economic significance, but also are the inevitable trend of development of substation automation, and provide a basis for condition-based maintenance equipment.This paper focuses on the state of online monitoring of SF6 circuit breakers. Firstly, we introduce the basic structure and working principle of SF6 circuit breakers, analyze common faults type of high-voltage circuit breakers and the cause of the failure,and determine main monitoring signals. Then, we design a high-voltage circuit breakers on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis system, including the sampling unit and PC units. The sampling unit is a dual-core ARM and FPGA data acquisition and communication modules. Subsequently highlighting based C# software design, including PC software and server software. Mainly it is related to human-computer interface design, network communications and other aspects. Field test results show that the software can achieve high voltage circuit breakers data collection, storage, processing, communication, waveform display and other functions, thus satisfying the requirements of on-line monitoring system. Finally, the high voltage circuit breakers fault diagnosis method is based on gray relational analysis and DS evidence theory, detailing its fault diagnosis model and calculation steps, and is applied to the high voltage circuit breakers instance. Experimental results show that this method can overcome the weak reasoning of single diagnostic method,and the disadvantage of low fault tolerance, greatly improving the accuracy of fault diagnosis.
