Acoustic imaging technology has become an important technology in the field of marine research at present, acoustic imaging system can overcome the complex hydrological environment, provide intuitive, rich, three-dimensional image to show the observed area of underwater, and identify the underwater target orientation and target location. In this paper,a system,called mechanical scanning sonar imaging system,is designed and implemented. With the help of this system,we scan the pool for one circle and collect the experi-ment data,then use beamforming.matched filtering methods to analyze the data,and some valuable results are achieved.Initially,Introduces the commonly used acoustic imaging technology:beamforming imaging, acoustic lens imaging, acoustical holography imaging.Mainly introduce the basic principle of beamforming,Multi-beam imaging technology, and some factors affecting the beamforming, which provides the theoretical basis for the below beamforming acoustic imaging.Secondly,introduce the beamforming acoustic imaging from two aspects(2D imaging and 3D imaging), for 2D imaging, beamforming and matched filtering methods are briefly introduced.for 3D imaging, Multi-angle scanning, focusing beamforming methods are briefly introduced.Thirdly,provide the acoustic imaging system block diagram of underwater target,and briefly introduced each modules in the diagram.after an introduction of mechanical scanning sonar imaging system hardware system components, the main performance indicators of transmitting array T63 and L array,the experiment platform 3D diagram,and the flow diagram of data processing are introduced.then hardware system is tested by exprimental simulation. Test results show that the mechanical scanning sonar imaging system is feasible and effective,and meet the requirements of mechanical scanning imaging.Finally,With the processing and analyzing of the eight groups experiment data,the effectiveness of the mechanical scanning sonar imaging system and data processing system is verified.Experiments results show that the imaging system can simulate echo time-intensity process diagram,2D top view,2D side view and local 3D view,having a certain ability of underwater target acoustic imaging.
