In order to research the hazard perception and response of the novice driver, driving behavior was classified; each driving behavior’s risk was analyzed. 20 kinds of typical dangerous traffic scene were selected, after questionnaire survey, and 10 kinds of dangerous scenes were finally selected. By using solid modeling software Creator, build typically dangerous traffic scenes virtual platform was built for virtual driving and testing. 3 groups were set which include experienced driver group, control group and novice driver group.Among them, control group received a right amount of intensive trainingin advance. In the test, driver is connected with feedback instrument, so that response for each hazard scenario data can be recorded, and the reason for the reaction was also recorded.Finally the use of NASA-TLX subjective evaluation sheet is used for determiningeach driver’s mental workload in driving the process.Driver’s response sensitivity, response time and mental workload were recorded and analyzed, and the result showed that with the increase of driving experience, driver’s capacity of hazard perception and response sensitivity greatly improved, and the response time and mental workload greatly reduced. Result from the comparison between the control group and novice driver group can be found that driver’s capacity of hazard perception and response sensitivity can be improved through training.Finally, the new BMW 7 Series, for example, as compensation for the novice driver’s capacity of hazard perception and response, high-tech systems was analyzed. Novice driver can be reminded by the real time monitoring of cross travel warning systems, steering control and lane assist systems, lane change warning, lane departure warning while driving steering, changing lanes, through implicit or explicit dangerous intersections and other traffic conflicts may occur. Active Cruise Control and Active Protection System help the novice driver maintain a safe distance.Night vision systems, head-up display system and I drive can provide a good driving vision for the novice driver, reduce distractions and mental workload.For novice drivers, it not only compensates for capacity of hazard perception and response, but also helps reduce traffic hazards.
