The application of superconducting technology is becoming more and more widely, but due to slow normal zone propagation velocity in high temperature superconducting(HTS) tapes, quench detection and protection are still faced with great difficulties. In the practical application, superconducting tapes are inevitably effected by electromagnetic force and other disturbance, and their mechanical properties are often lack, so it is necessary to study the effect of mechanical behavior on the stability of high temperature superconductor.In this paper we measured the effect of the different cryogenic temperature on mechanical behavior of Bi-2223 high temperature superconducting tapes toughed with copper alloy or stainless steel. The influence of the temperature and coated materials on mechanical properties of the Bi-2223 tapes was analyzed. Then, the quench propagation measurement experimental platform was constructed, on that basis the quench propagation velocity(NZPV) were measured in Bi-2223 tapes with different transport currents and different pre-tensile strain. The influence of pre-tensile strain and transport currents on the NZPV is analyzed. Finally, the NZPV were measured in Bi-2223 toughed respectively with copper alloy and stainless steel with different transport currents and different pre-bending strain. The influence of the transport currents and pre-tensile strain on NZPV of Bi-2223 tapes was analyzed. Base on the above experiment the difference of effect of tensile and bending deformation on critical current of Bi-2223 tapes was analyzed,and effects of tensile and bending deformation on NZPV is compared.The research and experimental results of this paper will provide guiding significance and reference value for design of superconducting device and quench protection system, laid the experimental basis for the application of high temperature superconducting technology.
