The explosion-proof crane is an important kind of special equipment, widely used in chemical, petroleum, mining and other industries. In order to guarantee the operation security, the Industry Standard sets the highest speed of explosion-proof crane. However, it finds that the standard lacks basis according to the surveys. If the speed limit of explosion-proof crane is too low, it will impairs the working efficiency seriously, while the working security will be impaired if the speed limit is too high. Therefore, it is necessary to set a reasonable speed limit standard. Wheel-rail friction temperature and friction sparks of the explosion-proof crane are the two most important factors influencing the formulation of speed limit standard. This paper provided the data support and theoretical basis for standard revision according to the studies of influences the main factors had on friction temperature and spark. This paper built a wheel-rail friction simulation test-bed. It studied the influences which velocity, wheel load, dangerous conditions, wheel diameter, the material and other factors had on wheel friction temperature according to experiments, and analyzed the wheel-rail friction by the Finite Element. The main contents of this paper are as follow:Firstly, the test-bed was built based on the original simple test device. The skew constraint device and friction sparks observation apparatus were designed. The thermostatic chamber and security devices were set up and the temperature measuring device was improved so as to provide a reliable test-bed for the latter wheel-rail friction test.Secondly, a reasonable test method procedure were chosen and set to study he influences of velocity, wheel load and dangerous conditions had on wheel friction temperature by experiments. The influence laws of the former factors had on wheel temperature were summarized based on the test results, providing an effective, reliable guidance for explosion-proof crane working.Thirdly, the influences of wheel diameter and wheel-rail material had on friction temperature under the normal conditions were studied according to experiments and the influence laws were summarized. In addition, sliding tests under the low-load conditions were carried out and the influences of materials had on the friction sparks were studied.Finally, the wheel-rail contact and heat transfer model were built up to analyze the wheel-rail rolling friction and sliding friction temperature rise by the Finite Element. The results showed that the simulation results were close to the test data, so as to verify the reliability and rationality. The simulation of wheel-rail sliding friction got the wheel temperature rising characteristics under the sliding condition to improve the experimental study.
