The TC16 titanium alloy self-locking nut is a new type of fastener which has been gradually applied on manufacturing of military airplane in China from the beginning of the 21 st century. There are two forms of titanium alloy self-locking nut: thick and thin. Over more than a decade of manufacturing and application, there are still some problems such as: high cost, hard to screw in during application, dead lock and bolt breaking. Therefore, some performance parameters of self-locking nut have been improved in Aeronautical Department Standard HB7595-2011(General specification for nuts,MJ thread,self-locking,with maximum operating temperature less than or equal to 425°C) based on HB7595-1998. Meanwhile, it is significant meaningful studying the manufacturing technology of TC16 self-locking nut with new technique.This study designs two types of research of twelve different sizes self-locking nut which based on the existing types of Shengyang aircraft company. In the first place, studied the processing technology of TC16 titanium alloy self-locking nut with analysing material properties of TC16 and processing features of screw thread. Confirming the processing size of inner screw thread and increasing manufacturing efficiency by choosing suitable machining cutters. The convergent tooling was designed which the convergent size of TC16 was decided by experimentation.The heat treatment of TC16 was researched by analysing the solution treatment(vacuum quenching) which transfer the products in twelve seconds. Meanwhile the oxygenation problem after heat treatment has been solved. The coating technique of cream lubricating HR-7201 of TC16 has been mastered during the cream lubrication with experimentation and comparison analysis.The manufacturing of TC16 were finished after a series of experimental according to technical requirements. The products of TC16 were identified enough to satisfy the requirements of new technique specification in HB7595-2011.
