With the increasing amount of motor vehicles, the problem of heavy traffic is more and more serious.Along with the development of computer technology, and the development of traffic simulation, traffic simulation software play a more and more important role in traffic engineering. Traffic simulation software can be used to test and optimize various traffic and road plan, and provide an intuitive, convenient and flexible description of the complex phenomena of traffic flow, in order to solve or alleviate congestion problems encountered in the actual traffic flow.VISSIM is a microcosmic molding tool,basing on time lag and driving behavior,which is adopted widely now in the world with its intuition /quick /flexibility to security.This paper tries to give some effective reference data for solving the problem of heavy traffic in Xi’an city by using VISSIM platform software and studying some aspect, especially the optimization of traffic signal in traffic management.This research do has some practical significance,here are its detailed researching content as follow :the concrete research content is as follows:1. To study of VISSIM software, studies the basic principle of the VISSIM, analysis of VISSIM internal and driving rules, a theoretical point of view is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the VISSIM.2. In order to improve the efficiency of road network construction as a starting point, studies the problems of the automatic extraction of road network data, the analysis of the current mature Map Info electronic map format, and the network data files for study of VISSIM, puts forward the detailed strategy of network data extraction.3. In order to improve the traffic capacity of intersections as a starting point, the traffic signal control of intersection traffic timing optimization, by studying of the classic timing algorithm WEBSTER algorithm, and using the VISSIM simulation with the result of calculation, and through the case analysis to prove the rationality of the results.4. According to the features of the behaviors of pedestrians in the mixed traffic flow, the first to use classical algorithm HCM2000 model of VISSIM to validate the accuracy of traffic delays, for motor vehicle priority rules used in pedestrian conflict with motor vehicle model, the analysis of pedestrian delay impact on the motor vehicle.
