Two-degree-of-freedom linear and rotary motors (2-DOF LRM) is a new drive motor with the advantages of smaller volume, lower cost, and higher efficiency,2-DOF LRM can complete linear, rotary and helical movement. It has great application prospects in industrial field, Therefore, it is of important theoretical significance and practical value to do some research on 2-DOF LRM.A new dual-stator 2-DOF LRPMSM is proposed in this paper. And its operation principle, basical structure, electromagnetical design and static characteristic are studied. The main contents of this dissertation are as follows:1. The domestic and foreign literatures about LRM are viewed, and the structure characteristics of the existing LRM are analyzed. A new dual-stator 2-DOF LRPMSM, which consists of linear stator, rototing stator and middle rotor, with two air gap, is proposed based on the structure of external rotor permanent magnet motor and cylinder permanent magnet linear motor.2. The operation principle of the presented 2-DOF LRPMSM is analyzed. The mathematical models of linear-drive unit and rotating-drive unit are built in ABC and dqO reference frame respectively. The design features of 2-DOF LRPMSM are summarized, and theoretical formulas for computing main dimension are derived. The electromagnetic structure parameters of linear-drive unit and rotating-drive unit are designed.3. The 2D electromagnetic field of linear-drive unit and rotating-drive unit, and the 3D magnetic field distribution of 2-DOF LRPMSM are analyzed respectively based on FEM. The distribution of the electromagnetic field in the motor is revealed. The back-EMF, inductance, rotary cogging torque and linear cogging force are calculated and analyzed.4. In order to reducing rotary cogging torque and linear cogging force, the structure parameters of 2-DOF LRPMSM are optimizated, including the number of primary slots and secondary poles, pole arc coefficient, auxiliary tank structure and the length of end structure.
