The Transition Of Discourses In "Architectural Journal":1954-2008

The Architectural Journal is the only one architectural magazine which accompanies the course of Chinese architecture from the 1950s up to now. And working as an academic journal with official channel in architecture, it has a special position in the development of architectural magazine in China. This thesis investigates transition of discourses of the Architectural Journal from 1954 when it was created to 2008 when it became a company and tries to reveal its underlying forces which indeed reflect the change of Chinese architectureduring this period.This thesis mainly focuses on three aspects through the time:the relationship between the Architectural Journal and The Architectural Society of China (ASC), the operation of the journal, and the core authors of the Architectural Journal.The chapter on relationship between the Architectural Journal and ASC starts from the shift of identity of ASC——sponsor and administrative body of the Architectural Journal, together with change of the relationship between ASC and it, and of the identity of the Journal, in order to discover the discourse right of ASC in Architectural Journal, and its’ changing process.The chapter on the operation of the Architectural Journal takes it as an institution which includes the editorial office and its’ working procedure. It examines its organization form and working procedure in order to analyze how the discourse right of ASC takes control and is counteracted in the Architectural Journal.The chapter on the core authors of the Architectural Journal, who plays a special role between official and institutional discourse right and discourses. With the aid of statistic data, this chapter looks into the change of the identity of the core authors, their distribution geographically and institutionalyy during different periods, which also reflects the change of discourse rights.The chapter on the key words of the Architectural Journal is based on the content in the journal. Specifically, we analyze the key words in Architectural Journal with the bioblio-metric method, and then from horizontal and bertical to see the transition of key words in Architectural Journal.use bibliometrics to anIn the end, the thesis rethinks the history of the Architectural Journal from 1954 to 2008, and proposes that 1955,1958,1964,1980 and 2002 are crucial year to outline the features of Chinese architecture discoures in these 50 years.
