Pb-GF(Lead-Glass Fiber)composite wire not only can be used in electric vehicles(EVS) and hybrid electric vehicles(HEVs) power grid plate but also can be used in other field such as radium resistance materials and sound reduction materials because of its high tensile strength, excellent electrical conductivity and good corrosion resistance. Pb-GF composite wire is a typical continuous brittle fiber reinforced by metal matrix composite wire. At present, the manufacturing technology of this material is not yet fully mature and it is still in the stage of continuous improvement. In this paper, the extrusion forming process of Pb-GF composite wire is studied, and the hydraulic system of the horizontal extruder is designed, and the simulation of the hydraulic system is carried out on the basis of the analysis of the extrusion process.Numerical simulation of Pb-GF side way extrusion process has been done by the DEFORM-3D software. The effect of temperature on the extrusion force of stable forming and the plastic flow of metal are studied. The mathematical formula is fitted to the stage of the extrusion pressure curve. Through the numerical simulation of the extrusion process at different temperatures, the appropriate temperature range is found out to control the whole side way extrusion process.According to the requirement of Pb-GF composite wire extrusion technology, the hydraulic system of 1800 k N horizontal extrusion press is designed, and the process of idle fast forward, slows feeding, extrusion process and rapid return is realized. To achieve the system differential air way forward, we combine the direction control cartridge valve with a liquid filling valve. Meanwhile, we use the speed control valve to regulate the speed of progressive extrusion and use the sequence valve to adjust the speed of return to achieve a smooth transition process from high speed and large flow to low speed and small flow. Finally, the hydraulic system simulation software AMESim is applied to the modeling and simulation of the composite action hydraulic cylinder, the directional control cartridge valve and the sequence valve. On the basis of this, the AMESim modeling and simulation of the hydraulic system of the 180 ton Pb-GF horizontal extrusion press is carried out, and the stable extrusion pressure curve is obtained through simulation, and the low speed running smoothly of the hydraulic press is realized.
