| Nowadays, the traditional testing model has many drawbacks, in which the procedure is cumbersome and human errors occurs easily. Moreover, the improvement of testing requirement and the increase of testing types result in an increase in teachers’ workload, thus making the tradition model fail to adapt to the modernized need for testing. With the rapid development of the technology, the testing model will also be improved through reform and innovation. Therefore, paperless online testing based on computer network technology must be enforced.This paper focuses on studying online English testing. First, the author gives an analysis on the background of the study and a brief review of the problems to be solved in this paper. The research significance and importance are also discussed. Following a review of the previous studies on this issue both at home and abroad, the research content and main work involved are presented in this part. Second, discusses the business of university’s English exam, uses the business flow diagrams to analyse the original business flow and reengineers them. Third, based on the actual situation of online English testing system development, this study follows the idea of object-orientation and makes appropriate use of flow diagrams, package diagrams, class diagrams. Furthermore, a detailed need analysis on the system will also be made from the perspectives of business need, functional need, data need, non-functional need, etc, the system includes question management, paper management, online testing, answer management, online grading, score management and user management. And its roles include teacher, examinee, administrator, etc. Meanwhile, the author employs entity attribute diagrams, entity relation diagrams and database table framework to analyse the system in detail. This system is a real representation of paperless testing, whose main functions include random production of testing questions, simultaneous testing for different examinees, precise testing time limit, automatic entry of testing questions, automatic grading, administrator’s revising the examination question bank and management of subscribers, etc. Finally, the author summarizes the research content and the work involved in this study. In addition, the author points out the limitations of this study and puts forward some implications for future studies. |
