In2009, COFCO proposed to build the whole industry chain strategy which is described as "from farm to fork", then it proposed "industrial chain, good product" marketing slogan. Since then, The concept of "the whole industry chain strategy" caused widespread controversy in business and academic circles. In fact, COFCO is not the earliest practitioners of the whole industry chain strategy. As early as in the1960s, lots of large-scale agribusiness, represented by four grain merchants (AMD, Cargill, Bunge, Louis Dreyfus) had already started to implement the strategic layout of whole industry chain. In addition, There are a wide range of applications of the whole industry chain strategy in the industry of energy, telecommunications, automotive and pharmaceutical. But it is worth noting:in recent years, with the acceleration of the industrialization process of China’s agriculture, the more and more domestic agricultural enterprises began to focus on the control of the whole industry chain, while there are a growing number of agricultural enterprises to began to layout or implement the whole industry chain strategy.Based on this phenomenon, the subject of this paper is to explore the deep motivation about the agricultural enterprises to implement the whole industry chain strategy in China, while analyze and sum up the types and implementation paths of the whole industry chain strategy, of the agricultural enterprises in China.In order to study the issue better, this paper begined with the review of the related theories of the domestic and foreign agricultural industry chain and the newest research progress of the whole industry chain strategy, and then summarized the content. On this basis The paper is determined the research framework and research methods.Then the paper gave the definition and classification about some important concepts related to the research, including the important concepts of agricultural enterprises, agricultural industry chain and the whole industry chain strategy. Then again, the paper analyzed the organizational form of the agricultural industrial chain and the status quo of agricultural development in China, and made a certain judgment on the development trend of China’s agricultural enterprises in future. The core of the study is, according to the theory of industrial organization and transaction cost theory, to construct an analysis model about the driving factors of agricultural enterprises to carry out the whole industry chain strategy.
