Study On The Location Choice And Influencing Factors Of Overseas Investment Enterprises In Shanghai

[Abstract] Since the reform and opening-up policy, especially the opening-up and development of Pudong since1990, Shanghai has maintained a long-term rapid economic development by expanding the opening-up both inside and outside, which has obtained remarkable achievements. Among them, the outside investments based on enterprises have already become one of the important driving forces of the economic development in Shanghai. The investment enterprises mainly include foreign direct investment enterprises and other domestic investment enterprises come from other provinces. This paper focuses on the latter that is the domestic investment enterprise from outside to shanghai.From1981to2010,the number of domestic investment enterprise from outside to shanghai has reached360557and the registered capital sum has reached1.284554trillion yuan. Also, the number of enterprises is equivalent to32percent of all the companies in Shanghai and6.43times the number of foreign investment enterprises. These enterprises widely distribute in the18districts and counties in Shanghai, however, due to the difference of investment environment in each place and the influence of other factors, in general, they present an uneven distribution. The research of influence factors of location selection made by the domestic investment enterprise from outside to shanghai will help each district or county improve its investment environment, promote location factors and industrial cluster effect, so as to attract more and more external investment enterprises to agglomerate in Shanghai, promote industrial structure adjustment and optimization as well as balance the economic development level of each area.This article uses the combining method of qualitative analysis and stepwise regression to investigate the space distribution of the investment enterprises from outside to shanghai based on a scale of district and county. Through the survey of development experience and characteristics of the external enterprises and the quantitative comparison of location choice characteristics in different periods and different sources, industries, trades and scale, we make a qualitative analysis towards the factors which influence the location choice. In data model analysis, we select five factors including economic output, industrial structure, labor resources, land cost and investment environment to make a quantitative analysis. The research shows that the economic output and land cost influence most significantly to the location choice of the external enterprises.This article divides into six chapters:the first and second chapter is for the introduction, existing theory and literature research, also put forward the background, meaning, content, methods and innovation of this research, summarize the results of existing research, build the theory and practice platform of this research. The third chapter describes the development process and characteristic of the investment enterprise from outside to shanghai from overall growth, source, industry, trade and scale of enterprises etc. In the fourth chapter, we use the statistic data to make a quantitative comparison about the location choice of the external investment enterprises from different views and make a qualitative analysis toward influence factors. Through stepwise regression model, chapter5investigates the most significant factors that influence the location choice of external investment enterprises. The sixth chapter includes the conclusion and policy implications.
