Based on the research theme of the preservation of cultural authenticity and the development of sustainable tourism on heritage, this paper studies the case of Shikinen-Sengu of Jingu, Japan and explores the contribution of this unique and well-illuminated model to the preservation of cultural authenticity and the development of sustainable tourism. The article adopts the linear-analytic structure. The data source is mainly based on literature, case-study and interview. It is an intrinsic single case exploratory study based on holistic-inductive mode.This paper aims to explore the reason why Shikinen-Sengu can be succeeded, promoted and enduring as well as the way how the authenticity of the culture which is regarded as the soul of tourism can be well preserved for more than1300years. It also approaches how the preservation of cultural authenticity and the development of sustainable tourism, which seem to be contradictory, can be complementary and keep abreast in Japan where developing tourism is one of the basic national policies. A mode of the preservation of cultural authenticity and the development of sustainable tourism is well illuminated based on the example of Shikinen-Sengu. Combined with our nation’s conditions, the essence of this mode can be absorbed for solving the problem between the preservation of cultural authenticity and the development of sustainable tourism. It is the sustainability of people who should be regarded as the mediator that can make all the factors such as region, culture, landscape and tourism well connected to construct a dynamic culture based on the preservation of cultural authenticity and to promote the sustainable development of tourism, while at the same time, the harmonious coexistence can be achieved for the nature, culture, history and tourism.This paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter One includes introduction, surveying research background, filing the research literature, raising research ideas, research substance and research methods, pointing out the innovation and difficulties; Chapter Two defines the relevant specialized vocabulary, and expands the theoretical research and theoretical explanation; Chapter Three makes case analysis; Chapter Four is the focus of this paper by clarifying the mode of the preservation of cultural authenticity and the development of sustainable tourism based on the example of Shikinen-Sengu of Jingu, Japan; Chapter Five proposes reference suggestions combined with our nation’s conditions by enlightening the case study.
