Study Of The Trade Between Russia And EU After The Western’s Economic Sanction

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, especially since twenty-first Century, the relationship between Russia and the EU has got a huge transformation. According to the needs of their respective development, the two sides have actively carried out cooperation and achieved considerable success. Today, the EU has become the largest trading partner about Russia, the cooperation of economic and trade between the two sides has an important strategic significance for Russia.However, due to the political crisis in Ukraine, the economic sanctions of EU against Russia and Russia’s anti sanctions in 2014 has brought an unprecedented challenge to the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides. So, how does the sanctions and anti sanctions impact the trade and trade structure between Russia and EU, not only the change in the number of but also the change occurred in the trade structure of two sides is the attention and question of my essay to answer. In view of the western economic sanction has occurred less than two years. So in this paper, we take the panel data nearly two years to observed the changes of the trade and trade structure. Although this change inevitably there has a lag effect, but some changes can still as our judgement and evaluation’s basis about the sanction’ impact on the economic and trade relations between EU and Russia.This paper takes western economic sanction as the boundary, then make the analysis about the change in trade quantity and structure. This paper consists of the introduction and five chapters, the specific contents are as follows:Chapter one is the content of western economic sanctions against Russia. This chapter introduced the theory of economic sanctions and summarized the contents of Western economic sanctions against Russia.The second chapter is the general situation of trade and trade structure between Russia and EU. It analyzed the overall situation and expounded the characteristics of trade and trade structure between Russia and EU.The third chapter and fourth chapter are the main parts of this thesis, the third chapter mainly analyzed the impact of economic sanctions on Russia’s trade and trade structure. The fourth chapter are empirical analysis. First to introduced the trade gravity model and used the data in 2013,2014 and 2015 to do regression analysis about the sanctions on the trade and trade structure between the two sides; Then, take the trade dependence index and trade complementary index and intra-industry trade index as the indexes to do empirical analysis on the trade structure between EU and Russia,which confirmed the complementarity and competitiveness between Russia and Europe products, and analyzed the impact of the sanctions about the trade and trade structure between EU and Russia after the Ukraine’ crisis from the perspective of three indexes’ point.The last chapter made the conclusion based on the empirical analysis and evaluated the influence of western economic sanctions on economic cooperation between Russia and EU.
