Case:M Bank Guangzhou Branch-Development Strategies Of RMB Cross-border Settlement Business

In order to promote the internationalization of RMB, Chinese government started pilot RMB cross-border settlement in 2009. Since then, although the scale of RMB settlement has big increase, the percentage of RMB settlement in international market is still very low. Commercial banks which serve as RMB cross-border settlement service providers, should actively development this business, put effort into expand the scale of RMB cross-border settlement, and make contribution to the internationalization of RMB.This dissertation is a case study of RMB cross-border settlement business of M bank Guangzhou branch. Firstly, it analyze the environmental factors, such as political, economic, social and technological factors, to find out the advantageous and disadvantageous factors. Secondly, it analyze present situation of RMB cross-border settlement business of M bank Guangzhou branch, found out that its problems are small scale of settlement business and weak customer base. The reason to this phenomenon is lack of business promotion, lack of talents, customer development strategy positioning is not clear, business operation system is lag behind, lack of overseas branches. Finally, In order to solve the above problem, M Bank Guangzhou Branch should grasp advantage factors of outside environment, put more effort into promoting this business. In this dissertation, four areas of business strategies are provided, which can serves as a guidance and provide reference resources for other similar commercial banks.
