Coil target is a cut-off device which is widely used to measure the velocity of a projectile. With the improvement of crystal oscillator technology, all kinds of electronic measurement instrument has high precision, it can ensure the accuracy of coil target. Therefore, the measurement accuracy of coil target distance is a key factor affecting the accuracy of coil target.This paper launches the research direction of the coil target distance. Usually, regard the distance between geometric centers of two coil targets as the target distance. In fact, according to the coil speed measurement principle, coil target distance should be the distance between the electromagnetic centers of two coil targets. Generally, the electromagnetic center of coil target does not generally coincide with its geometric center. There are many factors that cause this result, Such as when making coil target, being limited by the processing technology and the coil winding is irregular. When measuring the muzzle velocity, affected by the muzzle bad environment to draw texturing barrel. This makes the target distance measurement value has great uncertainty. In order to guarantee high precision of target distance measurement, the key technology of detecting coil target electromagnetic center is studied in this paper.Based on the related theory and model of coil velocity measurement on the basis of detail, this paper illuminates the main research direction and key technology of the topic. That is detecting the electromagnetic center of coil target. This paper introduces a method of detecting electromagnetic center statically, after the completion of designing coil target, test coil and coil driver, the experiment of detecting electromagnetic center was carried out. The conclusion is: the electromagnetic center of coil target located near the geometric center of a displacement, but to directly determine the specific location of the electromagnetic center of the coil target, this method remains to be further studied. This paper proposes a method of detecting electromagnetic center dynamically, it can also be said is a calibration method of coil target distance. It is using the laser velocimeter system with high precision, high response speed, strong anti-interference ability to calibrate coil target distance.Coil target distance calibration system is a complex system of coil timing measurement system and laser velocimeter system. This paper introduces the coil measuring circuit and chronograph design, and completed the measuring experiment. At the same time, this paper designed speed sensor, data acquisition and storage, data processing of the laser velocity measuring system, and completed the speed measuring experiment. And the distance measurement error of laser target was analyzed. It is proved that the laser velocity measurement system designed in this paper is a kind of high precision system used for calibrating coil target distance. The platform is built and the experiment of the dynamic detection of electromagnetic center is completed. The key technology in this paper is a way to improve the performance of the coil target.The detection method of electromagnetic center proposed in this paper, need to be tested in engineering practice. The experimental data in this paper can provide support for the future related research.
